Where it Began
When it comes to songwriting, I was late to the party. I’ve played in bands all my life. Dozens of cover and original bands, all types of music and several different instruments. I have collaborated and recorded with many people on their projects, but have never written and recorded my own music until now.
Ever since I was a very young child I was drawn to music. Fascinated with drums, it was the first instrument I learned. Then it was guitar, and then any other instrument I saw or heard. My parents used to shoot archery at a local legion where I grew up and on Saturday nights they had live country bands playing in the next room. Too young to be on that side I would peek through the door and watch them play with my jaw on the ground. Eventually one night they asked me to come over and sit in on drums. That was my first time on stage and I was hooked.
I’ve always loved listening to vocal harmony. I used to sing along to my favourite albums, naturally steering away from the lead vocal, finding different harmonies without realizing what I was doing. As I grew up and started playing in bands, I jumped back and forth between drums; guitar; bass; mandolin; singing, and I just knew that some day I had to put it all together.
My songs are easily relatable. Some are patch work ideas where words and phrasing are stitched together with melody. Others have a specific story or meaning, and some are autobiographical. I didn’t follow any rules or template, I mixed the music in my head with what I was feeling and it just started happening. Now I can’t stop, I absolutely love the writing process. What music does for people, and what it does for me is better than any drug (I wrote about that too). I’m so excited to share it with you. Enjoy…
Comments about Christopher Jackson’s debut single “Can’t Believe”
“A beautifully produced song with a very catchy chorus and strong vocals. Multi-instrumentalist Chris Jackson has put together a brilliant song that people need to hear”.
— Al Rankin, Rankin Productions
"I kinda wish Jackson had started writing songs sooner but if there are more gems like this one, there will be more treats to come."
— Georgette Frye
